Founded in 1998, Wild Blue Yonder started with 2 boats and 18 wetsuits, and the owners lived in a campground! Now, we have two locations: Revelstoke BC and Grande Cache, AB. We are dedicated to providing a safe and fun outdoor experience. We carry $2 million liability insurance on trips & vehicles, we belong to the Professional River Outfitters Association of Alberta, and we take an active role in promoting tourism in both our communities!
THE PIRATES STORY: A few years ago, owner Gina Goldie, had a crazy idea that would eventually grow into The River Pirates. It started as a simple children’s themed rafting trip down the Smoky River in Grande Cache. The guides would dress as pirates, bring out their best ‘Talk Like A Pirate’ voices, and sing some pirate songs! The kids got their faces painted and some fun props - and it did quite well for a few years. But, Gina always felt it could be better. In 2015, Quinn Goldie, a graduate of Victoria School of Performing Arts, came to work for Wild Blue Yonder, and had lots of great ideas to improve the experience! She was quickly put in charge of overhauling the trip, turning it into a true Theatre Adventure on water, with Quinn at the helm as the lovable Captain Stripes! In 2016, we moved the trip to Revelstoke, BC and the River Pirates then began roving the shores of the Columbia River. So if you see some scallywags floating down the river, singing songs and looking for maniac moose, now you know the rest of the story!
THE PRINCIPALS: Owner Johannes Zwart, or Yo as he's usually known, has nearly 30 years of experience as a guide: canoeing, dog-sledding, rafting and many other skills, making him a well-rounded Team Leader. Yo has a Kinesiology degree from Western University, and a diploma from the prestigious adventure tourism program at Thompson Rivers University. The other owner, Gina, has been an entrepreneur for almost 30 years. Her strong business skills, combined with a national designation in graphic design, has made her into a versatile content developer and marketing wizard. And, when she's not designing a marketing campaign or managing the office, she might be taking a group down the river as a guide! Our Revelstoke Manager, Cory Beisel, a class 4+ raft guide, has been a part of the Wild Blue Yonder family since 2003. As well as guiding guests through whitewater, Cory is an accomplished rock climbing and canoe guide.
